Mitigating Child Labour Risks in the selected tea garden areas of Assam

The Focus of the project/Objectives:
  1. To aware the parents about child rights and also about the problems invited by child labor in Assam.
  2. To build a child friendly environment where children can enjoy their fundamental rights
  3. Increase access of selected households to livelihood options.
  4. To create pressure in the concerned authorities to take necessary action against child right violations
Description of the project setting

The project aimed at reaching out to vulnerable children and encourage them to go to schools in 10 tea garden villages in Udalguri and Kamrup districts of Assam. The project also focus on spreading mass awareness on Child labour, school dropouts, importance of education among the parents and children and put forward some measures to mitigate it.

ACCOMPLISHMENT
  1. 2790 parents participating different awareness programs conducted by the project
  2. 650 children of most vulnerable families of tea garden attending daily tuition in 10 project villages
  3. Enrolment of 102 dropouts including child labour to formal school
  4. 1300 parents are attending Child labour days, Human Rights Day
  5. 650 children who are actively involved in Children’s Parliament
  6. 68 children’s leaders are trained across 10 project villages and taking leadership role in the villages
  7. 10 Child Protection Committees are formed
  8. 130 govt. stakeholders including community leaders took part in the consultation workshop and are aware about children issues in their respective Panchayat
