Preventive and Curative Health Programme Phase - II

During this quarter NEDSSS continued to reach out to the needy and deprived ones through the Health services and community based activities through five Diocesan Social Service Centers in Meghalaya, Mizoram, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur. Interractions focused on Malaria reduction, providing qualitative and effective health care to Mothers, children and other patients.

Medical camp conducted by Jirsong Asong

The mobile clinics and medical camps organized by Jirsong Asong in Diphu Diocese were very beneficial to the people. They received assistance from District Maria Officer and public Health Centers. They also provided medicines and health personnel to conduct 10 health camps under Jrikyndeng Block with 800 beneficiaries. A few patients were confirmed as affected by Plasmodium falciparum ( PF) during the camp. Each Partner Organization implemented activities like regular family/ village visits, promotion of herbal medicines , net working with government agencies, immunization of children, Antenatal and post natal care for mothers, health
awareness programmes, training and strengthening of village health task forces like VHSNC ( village health Sanitation and Nutrition committee), Detection of cases -TB, Malaria, promotion of institutional deliveries and regular monthly meeting with village health workers,
supervisors and completing the documentation of activities.
Through these ongoing awareness programs on health issues, the villagers have become more knowledgeable of the measures for achieving better health like early detection, preventive steps and treatment, keeping houses and surroundings clean, taking proper care of children and bringing them for timely vaccination. Trainings to Health workers and VHSNC have helped to work better and encourage the community to take more
responsibility for the functioning of sub centers, and Primary Health Centers. People were motivated to attend Gram Sabha meetings, cleaning of drainages, Job card making, repairing of roads and planting trees which will lead to the development of the villages and improve quality living.
The partner Organization Aizawl conducted health awareness programme in 16 schools in 7 districts namely Aizawl, Serchhip, Champhai, Lunglei, Karimganj, Hailakandi and Cachar. 750 students participated in it. It has helped them gain much knowledge on HIV / Aids and increase positive attitudes towards the persons suffering with HIV/AIDS.

One day Training on First Aid for the Supervisors and VHWs

Sr. Nalini SND, the Regional Health Coordinator, conducted one day training on First Aid to the supervisors and the village health workers / Ashas of five centers under DSSS Imphal on on the 27th April 2016. She presented the topic in a very simple, interesting and practical way with examples which the VHWs were able to understand using the power points. Similar trainings were conducted at the centres of all the Partners in the Region.

Basic Computer training

Understanding the needs, two days training on Basic Computer Skills for all health supervisors of NEDSSS was conducted from 2-4 of May, 2016.The training dealt with Ms office features and basics on photography. The aim of the training was to enhance the skills of health supervisor on basic computer. The training was fecilitated by Mr. Tennyson Shaiphu from NEDSSS.

Core team Meeting

On 14/ 06/ 2016 Core Team Meeting was held at NEDSSS with all the Directors and Coordinators the Project. There were 10 participants. Project activities were evaluated and points for improvement were pointed out. Everyone thanked Sr. Nalini for her committed service and for being a firm guide and support to all to carry out the project activities as she is leaving NEDSSS.
Sr. Sunanda SND, the New Health Coordinator was
welcomed on that day.
