MANTHAN-Child Development and Nutrition

This is yet another beginning for the project Manthan. Having begun its activities in the year 2008, the project has forged ahead with time and endeavoured to work towards its objectives of creating awareness on child development and nutrition, system strengthening and building capacity of the frontline workers with continued vigour and determination.

State Review Meeting with project personnel

The State Review meetings were held at the conference hall of NEDSF, Kharguli where key strategic areas and the main focus for the period were discussed in detail so that the team could have a better understanding of the project and its goals.

Two day Orientation Programme of Manthan project personnel

A two day orientation programme for ‘Manthan 2016” project personnel was organised on the 27th& 28th of May, 2016 at the conference hall of NEDSF, Kharguli with a view to equip the team with the required knowledge and skills to undertake the project activities smoothly and efficiently and enable them to deliver their best in the field. The orientation programme was divided into two parts. Day 1 was mainly kept for giving overview of the project objectives, activities and outputs whereas Day 2 was mainly technical where the team was oriented with the technical knowledge needed to deliver these activities. Resource persons from UNICEF, Directorate of Social Welfare, NIPCCD, GMCH, PHED, WASH etc., were invited to facilitate sessions. The Orientation Programme was very informative and useful for the team.

District Level Discussion Meeting

District Level Discussion Meetings were organised in all the 6 districts viz., Nagaon, Golaghat, Karimganj, Hailakandi, Sonitpur and Dibrugarh in the office of the District Social Welfare Officer of each district in the presence of the District Social Welfare officer as well as CDPOs of different ICDS projects. Detailed discussion on the project “Manthan 2016” took place along with the activities proposed to be undertaken during the current project period in logical sequence as well as the kind of support and
cooperation expected from ICDS.

Orientation Programme of selected AWWs of Field Learning Sites (FLS)

A one day Orientation Programme of selected Anganwadi Workers of Field Learning Sites was conducted in all the six districts on the following dates:
i. Dibrugarh on May 24, 2016
ii. Golaghat on May 12, 2016
iii. Nagaon on April 28,2016
iv. Sonitpur on 16 May, 2016
v. Karimganj on 8 June, 2016
vi. Hailakandi on 7 June, 2016
AWWs were given training on the concept of FLS, growth
growth chart, M-IYCN with special focus on WASH and other related key concepts. The orientation programme also saw active participation of CDPOs and ICDS Supervisors.

Additional Activity

• An awareness program on Global Hand Wash was
organised by the interns of NEDSSS placed under Manthan project. The interns from Tezpur University and Assam Don Bosco University were placed with NEDSSS as part of their month long summer internship.
• Various trainings were given by Manthan team on topics like Growth chart, M-IYCN and related key
concepts apart from the project activities to ICDS Supervisors and Anganwadi Workers during the period on request of District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) and Child Development and Project Officer ( CDPO).

Village Health and Nutrition Day (VHND)

The VHND is organized once every month (preferably on Wednesdays, and for those villages that have been left out, on any other day of the same month) at the AWC in the village. During the first quarter the Manthan team
attended VHND on a regular basis and also ensured the presence of FLS AWW in the VHND.
